Big Block

Big Block was started in 1992 by Jade Nielsen, a local scenester that seems to always have his hands in one thing or another, whether it's promoting big shows or trying to open up a record store that actually sells records. Big Block was Jade's second attempt at starting a record label, which unfortunately went the same way as his first label Moo Bob. With Moo Bob he released one CD of seventeen Fargo bands called Nodak: Distorted Hallucinations which featured the first track ever released by the now world famous duo known as godheadSilo. In 1994 Jade decided to give it another go and thought maybe renaming the label would help. After tossing around names he settled on Big Block and started planning yet another compilation. This time though he set his sights on five well established local bands and gave a chance to newcomers VROOM! who at the time had yet to write a song, that crazy guy. Rather than going the CD route again Jade opted for vinyl. What was originally planned as a 10" ended up a double 7" that came in a pretty cool drawstring cloth bag entitled Top Sluggers. Since that time Jade seems to have quit the record business and instead spends his time working at a local record store (that doesn't stock much vinyl), going to school, and occaisonally setting up great shows for bands like Mule, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Bloodloss, Jesus Lizard, Firehose, Southern Culture on the Skids, and just so many more it's a waste of time to mention them all.
